Hi, I’m Cheri, and I’m glad you’re here. Whether you are just beginning your journey with
mindfulness or you have been curious about it for a while, this series is for you. Over
the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing blogs and videos that explore mindfulness, positive
psychology, and meditation — not as abstract concepts, but as practical, accessible
tools you can bring into your everyday life.
I have been working with individuals and families since 2000, and across all of those
years and all of the different people I have had the privilege of sitting with, one thing has
remained constant: the power of slowing down and paying attention. Mindfulness is at
the core of the work I do in sessions, and it is also something I come back to in my own
life — whether I am out kayaking with my dog, hiking, or skiing here in the mountains.
These practices have shaped me both as a counselor and as a person, and I am
genuinely excited to share them with you.
What This Series Is About
The blogs and videos in this series are built around three interconnected themes:
mindfulness, positive psychology, and meditation. These are not separate silos — they
work together, and each one builds on the others. Mindfulness teaches us to pay
attention to what is actually happening, right now, without judgment. Positive
psychology helps us understand what genuinely contributes to wellbeing and
flourishing. And meditation gives us a structured, consistent way to practice both.
Together, they offer something I believe everyone deserves access to: a way to feel
less reactive, more grounded, and more connected to what matters. They are also a
direct extension of the therapeutic approaches I use in my practice, including Cognitive
Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness-based techniques, and holistic strategies that address
the mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical aspects of wellbeing.
What’s Coming Up
Here is a preview of the topics we will be exploring in this series. We will look at how
mindfulness calms the nervous system and reduces the fight-or-flight response that so
many of us live in without even realizing it. We will talk about grounding — what it is,
why it matters, and simple ways to feel more anchored in your body and the present
moment, from walking barefoot outside to noticing the things around you that bring you
joy. We will explore gratitude and why, as I often say in sessions, we tend to find what
we look for. And we will spend time with the breath — one of the most powerful and
underused tools any of us has access to.
If any of these topics resonate with you, I hope you will stay with me through the series.
And if you are working through anxiety, navigating a life transition, or simply feeling like
you want to feel better in your own skin, know that these practices are relevant to all of
it. They are the same practices I draw on with clients every day.
